Notre Dame (9) vs Louisville
Monday, September 2 nd, 8:00 PM at Cardinal Stadium
Swinging Johnson: This week Doug Upstone and I shall detract from our regularly scheduled program of NFL debate to dip our toes and render our school football picks on the Monday night game between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Louisville Cardinals.
It will probably be the first and only time this year we do this, as the last week of exhibition NFL football is somewhat lackluster in comparison to a regular-season sport of NCAA soccer featuring one of the best clubs in the country, and a mythical soccer program to boot up, Notre Dame.
Without further ado, lets start the debate after my buddy Doug Upstone got the best of me last week while the Titans were backed by me. We have been swapping wins forth and back so it looks like it is my turn to get the wreath, as the Irish are heartily endorsed by me and will follow the squares laying the lumber on a street favorite.
After reviewing the school football odds nearly six days before this Monday night affair, I see that the line has spiked a half-point on the preferred, starting at Notre Dame -19 1/2 to where it is now offered in a solid -20 across the board whatsoever of the very best internet sportsbooks.
I love the Irish but youre leaning to the Cardinals in this clash. Besides the venue do you think Louisville will hang with the boys?
Doug Upstone: Yes IMO and at least a convincing win, it said a lot about the direction of the Steelers and Titans. Let us proceed to real football, will our records with this one and where the games rely.
Remember Louisville used to play against big-name competitions? They held their own and engineered many upsets. These were fun games and also the Cardinals were an exciting club.
But such as the former Papa Johns Stadium and its fake (in real life) proprietor, Louisville soccer last year was worse than the usual three-day-old pizza.
Scott Satterfield worked wonders and will be out to change the culture and win games. This will not happen right away as the ability level is down in theVille. However , this is a huge moment for Louisville, a team that has the opportunity to start taking steps.
Ive read where the Cards trainers have sped up the slow mechanisms of QB Jawon Pass (great name for a QB) and that I like Hassan Hall because the lead running back. Than using a ticket for the Colts at OVER 9 for season 23, the shield, well, which makes me more worried. You have up your Irish, please dont forget.
Swinging Johnson: The Cardinals will not be doing much since the Notre Dame defense will keep them comfortable in their nest flying into this game. Scott Satterfield is in the big leagues and he has a team coming off of a dismal record where they went winless in ACC action last year. This rebuild is akin to carrying a hot air balloon and trying to turn it in an F-22 Raptor.
While that may eventually happen, the issue is that Louisville is facing a team which made it into the CFP last year and possessed only one of the stingiest defenses in all of college football, devoting only 17.2 points over the regular season and heading a perfect 12-0 till they fulfilled Clemson from the CFP semifinals. The Irish offense was clicking on all cylinders averaging 33 points per game over.
So, my question is, just how can be a quarterback like traveling whos slow to release, supposed to get any traction against a Irish defense? Particularly when hes working with a new coach and an offensive scheme?
Please, Doug, rescue me Im lost! I find no way, shape or form where Louisville is going to be able to keep up and I am desperate for your brand new wisdom and handicapping expertise!
Doug Upstone: Well, Swinger, I am happy to see in your last sentence you are coming around to the bright side of sport gambling, or you are just being the identical shrewd a** you usually are. Ill allow the SBR readers that are making college football picks decide on this. Im the first to understand Louisville wasnt only 2-10, but 1-11 ATS and completely sucked last year.
However, that team COMPLETELY gave up on coach Bobby Petrino, like he gave up about the Atlanta Falcons. A new coach brings a fresh attitude on creating a statement, and this being a match, his team will be sold by Satterfield. Louisville does have to trust not and they will not be taken by the Irish for granted have a lot of fight.
Lets also consider, Brian Kelly with the blue and gold is ATS as a road favorite, and a ATS when dishing out more or 20 digits. That defense you said might improve as the season progresses but replacing five starters, if you dont/cant amuse like Clemson or Bama, it is going to take some time.
Swinging Johnson: Well Doug, I was being a bit facetious because although you have an handicapping that was impressive resume, you miss the mark from time to time. And in this circumstance, because Louisville might be greater compared to last year but Id submit that they are trained by a Rhesus monkey and enhance upon their document rendered by an trainer like Petrino, you happen to be shooting blanks.
I understand that placing nearly three touchdowns on the street would be square biz for certain along with Joe Q. Public never got rich by gambling the heavy street chalk, but at times the public is right, and in this case they surely are. Until when we get back on our NFL Game of the Week next week, let us see what happens on Monday night when the Irish come ready to rumble in Louisville.
