The pair will back in Premier League action on Monday night, although Declan Rice and west Ham duo Robert Snodgrass endured a challenging time on responsibility.
Scotland dropped both the Qualifiers the 4-0 defeat to the latter was the first time Snodgrass had played with one year ago, since dropping to the opposition by precisely the same score.
“This was a disappointing few results for us ,” said Snodgrass.
“It was my first start in a lengthy period for Scotland, and to get beat how we did…
“We switched off at vital times and if they have got the likes of [Kevin] De Bruyne, [Romelu] Lukaku and [Dries] Mertens at the side they could cause you problems and that is what they done.”
Snodgrass is keen to focus on the struggle ahead, namely a visit to one of his clubs, Aston Villa, in front of the Sky cameras on Monday Night Football.
“We want to attempt to win the match at Aston Villa as, keep on progressing, we must keep on winning football games and will need to bring various ideas to split these sorts of down teams.
“Aston Villa are a really good side. I have watched them a lot this year because of the fact I’ve been there and speak with some of their staff and players, and we’ll need to be at our best to have a result.”
Snodgrass’ West Ham team-mate Declan Rice has also been facing a tough time on the stage for selecting to play for England over the Republic of Ireland, after he received death threats.
In addition, he came in for some criticism because of his defensive mistake which contributed against England in the European Qualifier of Tuesday .
Hammers director Manuel Pellegrini is confident Rice has the mindset to shoot everything in his stride and flourish for the federal side:”Declan is a very young player, he is advancing in every game he playswith,” said Pellegrini.
“He is only 20 years old and now I think with his era it’s very important he performs for England and it is essential for him the way he will demonstrate he functions.
“You can anticipate these errors for any kind of participant. He is advancing and for the second he is doing well in this place.
“If you are 20 years old you always wish to playwith, but we will see if he has any muscle problem. For the moment Declan must continue playing.”
“When I shot him out of this team I told him you need a couple more games to work in that place, he constantly is advancing and wants to learn. He always knows what he is doing wrong and what he wishes to improve on.”
“He has played in the best level for both matches [for England] which will give him assurance.”
