The New Orleans Saints are the Trendy NFL pick for Sundays game against the Jacksonville Jaguars — and for good reason.
Its official: We are on the Gardner Minshew bandwagon here at the ranch. The Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3 SU, 3-2 ATS) were rewarding after five near-complete matches from their backup quarterback, after the busted collarbone Nick Foles suffered early on through their season opener. Minshewmania is runnin wild~!
But Teddy Bridgewater. The New Orleans Saints (4-1 SU, 3-2 ATS) have won three consecutive SU and ATS since their backup QB took over for Drew Brees, who is out indefinitely with a broken thumb. And with their superior protection and special teams, it appears like the Saints would be the right NFL choice as 1.5-point road dogs for Sundays competition (1:00 p.m. ET, CBS).
To support our theory , we turn into our favorite sources for non-proprietary (i.e. complimentary ) personal projections:
FiveThirtyEight: New Orleans –3.5
Jeff Sagarin: New Orleans –3.93, 46.39 complete
That is pretty reassuring. A caveat, thoughgambling principles would be the better choice. While 51 percent of the amount wagered is on Jacksonville Truly, the consensus reports at press time reveal 63 percent of bettors around the Saints, a public group. This match was a pickem at the start, incidentally.
We are not scurred. A small bet could be proper in the surface of these early patterns, and awarded the between Bridgewater and Brees. It does not appear to be that large of a drop-off. The efficiency numbers at Football Outsiders of bridgewater are somewhat above league average. Since it turns out sample sizes issue.
Minshews numbers have been better, mind you. The mustachioed one rankings No. 8 overall in death DVOA during Week 5, 1 step ahead of the almighty (and also hirsute) Aaron Rodgers. However, Jacksonvilles defense has been poor, especially on the floor, where they rank dead-last in efficiency. Slimming Pro Bowl CB Jalen Ramsey to a demand isnt assisting their pass protection, either.
The Saints havent played excellent defense this year, but they have out-performed that the Jags. Additionally, while both groups have excelled on special teams, New Orleans has been much better; Will Lutz will be 11-of-12 on field goals and 10-of-11 on extra points, while Deonte Harris has taken one punt go back to the house.
There could be a room to choose theover with this matchup on the posted total of 44down from 45 if the NFL odds first hit on the board. Its supposed to be a day in Jacksonville, while the copy QBs have outperformed expectations, and , neither teams defense was stellar this season. But well stick in their cost here with the Saints — and will be together with you.
